We just love this wonderful quilt made by Michelle Baker, inspired by pictures of the Great Lakes region as seen from the International Space Station at night. You can also see Aurora Borealis just over the horizon over Canada.

This is another great example of ambient computing using Sparkle and LED boards to simulate the soft twinkling lights on something that will be part of your everyday environment. If only we could change the lights in response to real-time events happening on a computer... now, if that's not a hint...

Light-sensitive mini-tree for halloween

October 08, 2013
Tags: sensors, etextiles, conductive thread, halloween

The kids and I wanted to decorate a little wooden tree for halloween. They painted the tree, bats, owls, etc. and I added some etextile components to make the tree light up in the dark.

I used adhesive tape to attach the conductive thread to Chiclet, sensors and lightboards. I was going to use conductive paint, but the adhesive works in a pinch and is easy to remove ^_^
