Schemer

Tags: New products, schemer, bus, new lightboards

We've just introduced the next big thing in electronic fashion.

The world's only screen-programmable button hits version 2.0.

What's new? Tons

We're really excited, because this system allows you to connect all these components on the same pair of wires.

Another light-up bra

Chung-Hay, from Noisebridge is all about pink geeky attire; for instance, she made (and wears) a cute little USB memory necklace. She recently got her hands on schemer during the last workshop, and incorporated it into a flashing bra.

The schemer (center piece) is hidden "behind a pink crystal bead, which serves to diffuse the light and keep the bra looking non-geeky by keeping all of the electronics hidden. The rest of the LEDS are behind the black lace and peak out from the centers of the lacey flowers."

And when she wants to change patterns or reprogram it, she just loads the schemer interface, and holds the bra up to an iPhone or laptop and presto!

Check out movies of the bra on her blog: dumb Bunny meets little Bean. Next up... the bra that matches your heartbeat.

On the way to Lynne's workshop at Club Workshop, I happened upon this fabulous mural. You really have to see it in person as this picture doesn't do it justice. This was in Denver's Art District on Santa Fe.

Bright patches - remote control

Bright Patches is a lovely silk halter-back evening dress by Lynne Bruning.

Gorgeous, yes? Now look closely. Notice anything...?

Now why would we ask such a question? Remember, Aniomagic is about stylishly blending electronics with fashion.

After studying this project, you'll be able to dramatically reach for your dress to change songs on your iPod/iPhone. For the prima donna in all of us, we can now interact with music with a 'swish, swish, click'.

Mad props to Lynne for lending us the award-winning "Bright Patches". Check out her flickr pages.

Silk pouch remote control
January 01, 2010

Sophia was having a hard time keeping her eyes on the road while trying to change songs on her iPhone. So she built a silk pouch remote control that fits in nicely with her theme.

Inside the pouch are two pieces of leather, cut on a laser cutter with holes at the head and tail of the fish. Using the techniques from the remote control cat she sandwiched the leather between pieces of conductive fabric, connected it to conductive yarn, and glued the silk layers on.

The leather gives the remote a stiff, yet soft feel, and the silk gives it a polished finish.
Now she has a different problem: she can't keep her eyes of the remote :-)

LED Holiday TuTu
December 18, 2009
Tags: projects, schemer, lightboards

How to get the cute geeks to talk to you at this year's holiday party? With a "groovalicious eTextile blinky-blink party tutu" of course! Textile enchantress Lynne Bruning posted this instructable on this quick and easy etextile project. Incidentally it will be on display Friday 18 December from 7 -10 p.m. at Mona Lucero's, 2544 15th Street in Denver. It was also part of a theater performance in Denver.

Using the (not yet released) schemer components, she was able to create a Tutu with flashing lights. To change the flashing patterns, just point the Tutu to the schemer interface, select your choices and press "send". Easy peasy.

You can mix sensors, different light colors, accelerometers, buzzers, etc. on the same pair of wires. It's so easy because every board has a tiny microcontroller that gives it a "bus address" and some smarts. That way you can hook everything up using the same two wires. We'll release this system early 2010. (^_-)

Marianne made a Totoro iPod remote control for her sister. Press his belly to change tracks and volume. Such a really cute and functional Christmas present, I think her sister will love it. Check out the project page over at crafters.org

Thanks for the pics Marianne!

Temperature-sensing Coffee/Tea Sleeve

Check out this temperature-sensing coffee/tea sleeve by Angela Sheehan over at Soft Circuit Saturdays.

Using a learning sensor, she was able to whip up an interactive sleeve with LEDs to indicate a drink's temperature. Because it's a sleeve, you can slide it on pretty much any cup of your choice. I also love how the LEDs are incorporated into the penguin's eyes.

A wonderful example of how you can make small and practical everyday stuff with learning sensors.
