Glam

Sparkle

Chiclet

Glam is a perfect introduction to etextiles:

  • fewer connections to make
  • twinkles by itself (don't add LEDs if you don't want)
  • no need for a computer; change patterns by touching

However, Glam is not as featured as Sparkle or Chiclet:

  • only 3 LEDs total
  • limited to 3 built-in patterns
  • cannot use sensors, motors or music player

Glam up a felt & velvet choker or wristband in under 10 minutes with a tiny pulsing flower.
This example uses only Glam and a battery, so it's really quick and easy.

It's not working

when Glam's LED is Glam is
flashing or twinkling running 1 of 4 flashing patterns
dimly flashing once a second sleeping. Press area under the LED (the touchpad) to wake it up
off we have a problem

If you cannot see any lights flashing:
  1. double-check your connections
  2. make sure you sewed through the holes several times for a tight fit
  3. look for short circuits, places where two threads might be touching
  4. use a new battery
  5. review the glam sewing tutorial
  6. totally undo the circuit, and sew only two things: Glam, and battery
  7. now add other leds, one by one, testing each time you add one

How do I connect it?

review the glam sewing tutorial

  • Connect Glam to the battery holder using conductive thread, conductive paint, or regular wire
  • Use two separate threads, one for plus and one for minus
  • Go through each hole 4-6 times to make a good connection, not just once
  • Make sure there is no short circuit
  • Connect a 3 volt battery. It should start flashing
  • Next, with the power on, add 1 LED on the left, + side up
  • Use two separate threads, one for plus and one for minus
  • Make sure this LED is also flashing before adding the one on the right

Can I use other types of LEDs?

You can, but we do not recommend doing so for Glam. It's best to use the two flat LEDs provided in the kit.

How do I turn it off?

Glam will turn off automatically after 5 minutes, but if you want it turn it off before then:
  • Hold your finger to the touch pad.
  • After 1 second, the center LED fades off and Glam will go to sleep.
  • Remove your finger as soon as the LED starts to fade.
  • Press the touch pad again to wake it up.

How do I turn it on?
  • Hold your finger to the touch pad.
  • After 1 second, Glam should start running again.

How do I change patterns/program?

With Glam, you can choose from 4 preprogrammed patterns:
  • Hold your finger to the touch pad.
  • After 1 second, the center LED fades off.
  • Keep holding for 1-2 seconds, and the center light will flash 3 times
  • Remove your finger.
  • Glam should now run a different pattern.
  • Repeat to cycle through all 4 patterns.

Glam automatically turns off after 5 minutes. This table shows how long it would run if you always woke it up, so it kept running.
