Dazzu is a perfect introduction to etextiles:
-
no sewing! lights come preassembled, and battery slides in
- flexible, flat, with 3 LEDs thatLights no fewer connections to make
- twinkles by itself (don't program if you don't want)
- built-in light and temperature sensors
|
However, Dazzu is not as featured as Sparkle or Chiclet:
- only 3 LEDs total
- limited to 3 patterns (and two speeds)
- a fixed shape, cannot put LEDs in different locations

Dazzu kit tutorial
Start with this introduction to the Dazzu kit.
Learn how to turn it on, program it, and interact with its sensors. |
|
Create a child-sized felt wristband that twinkles when you press it.
It can also be programmed to turn on in the dark, or (with an additional sensor), when you shake your wrist! |
|
Check out this example of using Dazzu to brighten up a felt house with "puffs of smoke" coming from the chimney. You can program it to turn on for 5 minutes in the dark. |

It's not working
If you cannot see any lights twinkling:
- make sure you're using a thin (CR2016) battery
- press the center section of dazzu so it makes contact with the battery surface.
- try a new battery
|
|
How do I connect it?
Just slide the battery into dazzu, negative side up.
|
|
Can I use other types of LEDs?
Not really. dazzu is limited to the 3 lights that come with it.
|
|
How do I turn it off?
Dazzu will turn off automatically after 5 or 30 minutes, depending on what you programmed.
The only other way is to take out the battery. |
|
How do I turn it on?
- Press the center section of Dazzu so it makes contact with the battery surface.
- After 1 second, Dazzu should start running again.
|
|
How do I change patterns/program?
With Dazzu, you can choose from 4 preprogrammed patterns:
- visit http://www.mydazzu.com/program.php
- then turn dazzu on by pressing the center section so it makes contact with the battery
- remove your finger
- now press again for about 2-3 seconds
- the lights should all start flashing quickly
- hold up to the dazzu programming screen and follow instructions there.
|
|
Dazzu automatically turns off after 5 minutes. This table shows how long it would run if you always woke it up, so it kept running.
